What is Abrasives Wheel?
Abrasive grinding wheels are core consumables for industrial processing. Their classification system is based on abrasive composition, binder characteristics and dynamic mechanical properties. Mainstream products are divided into four categories according to abrasive types: alumina series (including brown corundum, white corundum, chrome corundum), silicon carbide series (black/green silicon carbide), superhard materials (diamond/CBN) and composite abrasives (such as zirconium corundum). The bonding agent technology determines the performance boundary of the grinding wheel. The ceramic bonding agent forms a microporous structure through sintering at 1200℃, which is suitable for high-speed precision grinding (line speed 60m/s); the resin bonding agent adds copper powder to enhance thermal conductivity, so that the temperature resistance of the cutting grinding wheel is increased to 300℃; the metal bonding agent (copper-based/cobalt-based) is matched with diamond abrasives, and the wear ratio is as low as 1:5000 when processing cemented carbide. Types of Abrasives Wheel
Straight Grinding Wheels
Straight wheels are the most common mode of the wheel that is found on the pedestal or bench grinders. This is also widely used for centerless and cylindrical surface grinding operations.
Cylinder or Wheel Ring
This kind of wheel doesn’t have a center mounting support, but it has a long and wide surface. They are mainly used in horizontal or vertical spindle grinders for producing flat surfaces. Further grinding can be done with the end face of the wheel.
Tapered Grinding Wheels
A tapered Grinding wheel is a straight wheel that tapers externally towards the midpoint of the wheel. A straight wheel with a tapered wheel is generally used for gear teeth, grinding thread, etc.
Straight Cup

Applications of Abrasives Wheel
Silicon Carbide: This is sharp and hard and it can be brittle. It should use this only in grinding of low tensile strength materials such as grey cast iron, chilled iron, bronze, aluminum, copper, and brass.
Aluminum Oxide: This is slightly softer than Silicon Carbide but much tougher. It should be in cutting and grinding high tensile strength materials like alloy steel, malleable iron, bronze, etc.
