What is Cut Off Wheel?
Cut-off grinding wheels are efficient cutting tools in the field of metal processing. Their classification system is based on abrasive ratio, reinforcement structure and cutting dynamics. Compared with general cutting discs, the thickness of cut-off grinding wheels is generally reduced to 0.6-1.2mm. They are reinforced with three-way cross glass fiber mesh, with radial tensile strength exceeding 1500MPa, maximum linear speed up to 120m/s, and cutting efficiency increased by more than 50% compared with traditional tools.
According to the abrasive system, they are divided into two major branches: alumina-based and diamond-based. Alumina cut-off grinding wheels use a composite process of calcined corundum and resin, with abrasive accounting for 65%-75%. They are specially used for cutting stainless steel pipe fittings, and the ratio of cutting depth to wheel diameter is stable at 1:4. Diamond cut-off grinding wheels use copper-tin alloy as the matrix, and 40-50μm diamond particles are distributed in a gradient. When cutting cemented carbide, the single feed amount can reach 6mm, and the verticality error of the incision is ≤0.08mm.
Structural innovation continues to break through performance boundaries: The waveform interface cutting wheel uses a sinusoidal surface design to increase the effective utilization rate of abrasives to 92%; nano-ceramic coating technology suppresses the cutting temperature below 300°C to eliminate thermal deformation of materials. The explosion-proof cutting wheel is reinforced with double-layer basalt fiber, and the breaking speed is 2.2 times the working speed, which meets the ANSI B7.1 safety standard.
Industry applications give birth to special products: 0.8mm ultra-thin cutting wheels in the automotive manufacturing field, with servo control systems to achieve ±0.1mm cutting accuracy of crankshaft blanks; aluminum borate whiskers are added to the special grinding wheels for nuclear power maintenance, and the radiation resistance life reaches 300 hours. The EU EN 13236 standard requires that the cutting wheel must pass a 250,000-turn fatigue test, and high-end products use laser holographic detection to eliminate 0.15mm internal defects. The market share of environmentally friendly water-soluble resin binder products has exceeded 28%, and cutting dust emissions have been reduced by 65%. Frontier research and development focuses on intelligent cutting systems, and some grinding wheels are integrated with strain sensors to feedback cutting load data in real time through the ZigBee protocol.
